Miriam has had vast experience since graduating in 2007. She was placed in the top 5% of students during her honours year at Monash University and also received the Deans Award for Criminal Profiling in her Masters’ degree. Miriam has worked extensively with clinical and forensic populations across different settings – including prisons, psychiatric hospitals and private practice.
With a Master of Psychology (Forensic) and an Honours Degree in Criminology, Miriam is specialized in the area of psychological assessments and reports for legal purposes. Assessing offender populations is her passion and area of specialty. Miriam believes it is essential to build a strong rapport with assessment clients and she treats all clients with respect and an unbiased approach.
Miriam is experienced in assessing and treating the following conditions:
- substance abuse
- psychotic disorders
- complex trauma
- personality disorders
- mood disorders
- sexual offending
- risk assessments for violence and/or future offending
Miriam also has extensive skills in providing court ordered psychological treatment to offenders and works with victims’ of crime (both in an assessment and treatment capacity). Her treatment plans are tailored to her client’s needs, but can include: anger management, sexual offending treatment, stress/anxiety strategies, trauma related treatment and emotional regulation techniques. Miriam is skilled in providing Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and places heavy emphasis on creating a strong therapeutic alliance with her clients in order to achieve better therapeutic outcomes. Miriam believes her experience in treatment is essential to her legal assessments and helps her both conceptualize her client’s presentation and formulate the most effective recommendations to manage her client’s presentation.
Miriam mainly provides legal assessments and reports in criminal cases and civil cases (such as TAC and WorkCover related cases). She holds general registration with AHPRA, is registered with Medicare, TAC, Department of Veterans' Affairs, and WorkCover. Miriam is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society and in the future intends to complete her endorsement with the Forensic College. Miriam also provides supervision to provisional and newly registered psychologists and enjoys this role.
